'Sustainable packaging' refers to packaging that is designed with environmental impact in mind, aiming to reduce waste, carbon footprint, and resource consumption while still being functional. Sustainable packaging includes at least one of the following:

  1. Eco-friendly materials – Made from recyclable, biodegradable, or compostable materials like paper, cardboard, plant-based plastics, or reusable glass and metal.
  2. Minimal waste – Uses less material overall, reducing unnecessary layers or components (e.g., minimalist design, lightweight packaging).
  3. Recyclability and reusability – Designed to be easily recycled or reused instead of being discarded after a single use.
  4. Renewable resources – Uses materials derived from renewable sources, such as bamboo, cornstarch-based plastics, or FSC-certified paper.
  5. Low carbon footprint – Produced with sustainable energy sources and has a lower environmental impact in manufacturing and transportation (e.g., using local materials to reduce emissions from shipping).
